Richard is a middle-aged Englishman who runs a B&B in the Vallée de Follet. Nothing ever happens to Richard, and really, that’s the way he likes it.

Until scandal erupts in the nearby town of Saint-Sauver when its famous restaurant is downgraded from three Michelin stars to two. The restaurant is shamed, the town is in shock, and the leading goat cheese supplier drowns himself in one of his own pasteurization tanks. Or does he?

Valérie d’Orçay, who staying at the B&B while house-hunting in the area, isn’t convinced that it’s a suicide. Despite his misgivings, Richard is drawn into Valérie’s investigation, and finds himself becoming a major player.

Death and fromage

I love Ian's writing. His stories and autobiographies are always full of clever humour and beautifully written. He reads them wonderfully too and makes me smile. Thank you Ian. I am looking forward to more adventures with Richard and Valerie !

Best ever

Can’t wait for the next book. Roared with laughter over the toupee in the car incident chapter 2. Easy to listen too, love the twists and turns. Better than the last book and I loved that one too.

Even better than the first book in this series

Enjoyed this light hearted who done it immensely. Great characters, twisting plot and humour abound. Enjoyed the authors first book of this series, this is even better.

A jolly romp.

Very much enjoyed catching up with the characters again. I did have to try and keep my wits about me with the number of suspects. But the ever hapless Richard with his moments of brilliance kept me entertained. Together with the ever resourceful Valerie will ensure I’ll be coming back for more whenever the next instalment arrives. Kept me smiling.

Very entertaining

Entertaining and amusing. I lost who some of the French characters were to begin with but soon got the gist. I look forward to the next in the series

Entertaining, original and beautifully read

Excellent, even better than the previous book which I enjoyed immensely. Mystery with no gore or cheesiness (apart from the fromage). I like the characters and look forward to meeting them again.
