Summary

Sam Becker loves—or, okay, likes—his job. Sure, managing a bed-and-bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work, and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git.

Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything?

Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guilt—as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

Sweet story

Good narration of a story full of characters and joy. As with so much of Alexis Hall’s works the story is simple but filled with people you fall in love with and want to know more about them. Another one to enjoy for the pleasure of a simple story.

A fantastic book and a stunning performance

I will admit that I’m always pretty much guaranteed love anything by Alexis Hall but this book blew away my expectations and set the bar to a new high. It was a fantastic read, start to finish, and Will Watt’s narration of it was above and beyond brilliant, from start to finish.

Great narrated feel good love story

The story is a bit formulaic but original and lively in the details. It’s funny, well written and entertaining. The narration is excellent. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Boyfriend Material, and would like to listen or read something similar.

Loved this

This was such a fun story to listen too. It is funny and at times heartwarming. I loved Sam and Jonathan, but I also loved the side characters too, especially Jonathan’s family.
Really hoping for a sequel to this book someday and would 100% recommend.

A dream coming true

Alexis Hall's books are my absolute favorites, but I must admit that lately his work had been a miss for me. With this one, though, the spell is broken.

This is an absolutely fantastic book and confirms my hypothesis that when Hall lets the personal bits and pieces shine through his writing, he is at his best. The North of England, the working class struggles and the whole local color of the North is such a treat, cutting deeply, mining the innermost emotions from a person, because when Hall is personal, he touches the essence of every living soul. His portrayal of the MCs is meticulous and flawless and heartbreaking, and they are much realer than any romance characters have a right to be, which is exactly what makes Hall's romance novels exceptional. Only he can write a book that is the epitome of British humour, and if you are a fan of that, then you will laugh constantly throughout the book, while at the same time, you will feel how he is simultaneously gutting you and turning you into an emotional crying trainwreck. Because the tangible loneliness and loss and grief and the impossibility of a genuine human touch that the characters experience is so well portrayed that you can't even...

I used to think that Hall's endings tend to be rushed and feel a bit incomplete, but in 10 things that never happened, it is not true. The final scene before the epilogue is an absolute perfection.

If you are looking for a romance that features very much imperfect, genuinely human main characters, this is a book for you. Also, featuring a plethora of trademark side characters that only Hall can write with such a flair and whom you will love with your whole drained heart.

The narrator is a Godsend. He is so unbelievably good that the words fail me, so I'll stop with this review right here.
