Between 1995 and 2002 four young trainee soldiers were found dead at a military training camp outside London, Deepcut. The soldiers all died from gunshot wounds, all on guard duty. In each case the army quickly concluded the deaths were suicide.

But for the families, the official version of events just didn’t add up and so they all started to ask questions. Investigative journalist Jane MacSorley and retired detective chief inspector Colin Sutton join forces to investigate the deaths and try to find answers about what really happened at Deepcut.

After a year-long investigation the pair have uncovered shocking details about what life was like at the training camp. Interviews with former soldiers have painted a harrowing picture of emotional, physical and sexual abuse in an environment of apparent lawlessness.

Featuring exclusive interviews with family members, former army trainees, senior officers and forensic experts this investigation has uncovered new allegations of criminal activity and a shocking secret which has never been reported until now.

I'm pleased that this was made. I had read what had happened at Deepcut as reported in Private Eye over the years, so was interested in what this audible original would report.

This should make the Government and MOD ashamed beyond belief. It documents the deaths of soldiers at Deepcut barracks as well as ritual and relentless beatings, rapes and abuse. Colin Sutton as usual is professional to the end despite uncovering new information previously withheld by Surry Police and the MOD.
My heart goes out to the bereaved families and to the soldiers who suffered there. It is about time that this coverup was shown for what it is: an abuse of power, trust and the continued torment of families and survivors.

I have always had a morbid curiosity for what really happened at Deepcut. I think it's obvious that the truth was never told and the full extent was never made public. I was in the British Army for 10 years, and I recognise the "type" of many of the personalities, characters, circumstances and situations presented here in this audio presentation. I have personally witnessed echo's of them all first hand in other soldiers, in other units, and in other army barracks and camps. Tragically so much of what's presented here rang a bell with my own experiences and memories. My own experiences, certainly not as extreme, but certainly recognisable as "more of the same" in action and attitude. The bullying, the sexual predators, the belittling abuse, the sociopathic power tips, the side-stepping of responsibility, and of course the cover-ups of mistakes, and the buck-passing when things go wrong. I can't say whether it's better now than it was, but I recognise it all. Thanks for dragging this into the light once again, and trying at least to present the truth, once again. We will remember them all.
