Summary

'This is the one I’ve been waiting for. And it’s a masterpiece of suspense. I quite literally couldn’t put it down - even when I was supposed to be doing other things...' - Barbara Erskine, author of The Dream Weavers

Peter James, the number one, multi-million copy bestselling author of the Grace series returns with a thrilling new novel: a Roy Grace story told from a new perspective, read by Gemma Whelan with an exclusive introduction read by the author.

Some will know how it begins . . .

My name is Sandy.
My husband is Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.
But when I disappeared, even he couldn't find me . . .

This is my story.

There's more to Sandy than meets the eye. A woman with a dubious past, a complicated present and an uncertain future.
Then she was gone.

Some will think they know how it ends . . .

Her disappearance caused a nationwide search. Even the best detective on the force couldn't find her.
They thought she was dead.

But nobody knows this . . .

Where did she go? Why did she run? What would cause a woman to leave her whole life behind and
simply vanish?

For the first time the truth behind Sandy Grace’s dramatic disappearance is revealed. They Thought I Was Dead will thrill fans and new readers alike with its gripping story of a woman on the run. This is Sandy's story.

The sadness of Sandy's story.

Loved the fact we got to know what happened to Sandy. To know she loved Roy to the end. Sorry for her son Bruno.. I hope Roy takes his son Bruno in. Also that the Beautiful island of Jersey was part of this story. Places like Corbiere lighthouse and Bouley Bay with the lovely Mad Mary's beach cafe that i have visited many times over the years and still do .
Well done Peter James for another fantastic story.

Peter James never disappoints. It knits all the Roy Grace stories together really well. Well narrated.

Fantastic

Wasn’t sure if I would like to hear Sandy’s back story but this is so well imagined and so well narrated. I love we know why Sandy disappeared right from the start, no messing around. And the reason why really caught me off guard. What a story!

Addiction - repetitive Gambling and Drugs

Enjoyed the story . Repetitive at times. Prefer the twist s in the Roy Grace detective series but pleased to put Sandy to rest. Looking forward to reading more Roy Grace with Chloe.

Good to know…

I’ve read/listened to every Peter James book and particularly enjoy the Roy Grace series. All the main characters throughout the series become an integral part.
From the first book, Dead Simple; the description of Roy; blonde, athletic, plays/played rugby. With every book I have had a vivid picture of Roy Grace, one that had quite a presence, strong looking. A bit of a James Norton lookalike. The first time Sandy sees Roy she describes him as looking like Danial Craigs younger brother - yes!
Unfortunately since watching the tv series ( I’m sorry! I think John Simm is a very good actor, but not Roy Grace)
Blonde, bright blue eyes and likened to Danial Craig’s younger brother.
I was so looking forward to watching the tv series, but I just couldn’t watch it. All the other characters in the show were cast perfectly.
Through out this book and the last 3 Roy Grace books, all I see now is a character with grey hair, grey suit and bland.
Despite this, as always Peter James never disappoints. It’s good to know Sandy’s story. Can’t wait for the next book!

Lots of resolution in this book. Not sure about the Bruno angle but apart from this, I really enjoyed it. Would recommend.
